SPA ≫ Advice From Maso

Tips and internal rules for
a good sauna experience

Well-being has customs, rituals and rules: it is best to know them well.

AND REMEMBER...

This place is dedicated to relaxation: please help us maintain silence.

Saunas are enjoyed without swimwear: synthetic fibres can irritate the skin and intimate areas at high temperatures and expose them to the risk of fungal and bacterial growth.

Try to find a balance between your body, mind and nature. Enjoy the contact between your naked body and the elements of nature: contact with water, heat, snow, the landscape, fire and the sun.

If nudity makes you uncomfortable, use our towels (made of cotton!) not only to keep the benches hygienic (for you and others) but also to cover yourself (after the first time, you will be too hot and your modesty will disappear!). Do not let even a centimetre of skin touch the benches or floor; we will check and we will be strict.

You enter the sauna without slippers.

Do not use the sauna on an empty stomach, but also not on a full stomach.

It is better to have short, intense sessions rather than long, lukewarm ones: the ideal length of time to spend in the sauna is between 10 and 15 minutes. However, let your sense of well-being determine how long you stay in.

If you don’t feel well, get out immediately! Saunas are good for the body and spirit, but you need to know and respect your limits.

If you have been lying down in the sauna, sit on the bench for the last 2 minutes: this will allow your circulation to readjust to the upright position.

When you leave the sauna, your body needs to reoxygenate: go out into the open air and fill your lungs with oxygen.

The cooling phase is essential for achieving the right balance. You have the following options: showers, ice, Kneipp hose. Choose whichever you prefer. When taking a cold shower, start by wetting your arms and legs, then move on to your back and torso: from the extremities to the heart. Wet your head last to avoid the risk of headaches.

Take it easy during the cooling-down phase: it should last as long as the sauna session.

After cooling down, take a break: the relaxation phase is important to allow your body to regenerate.

Your body needs to be rehydrated. You will find everything you need in the herbal tea corner.

To avoid circulatory problems, avoid any sporting activity after the sauna. Massages are ideal, however.

Nudity and silence apply to all areas of the spa: we really don’t like seeing you walking around in swimwear, nor do we like hearing noise!
